dvd reviews

most of u should know i spend most of weekends at home watching dvds/vcds with gd frds.well, the two shows i recenty rented was a very bimbotic and girlish show,MATERIAL GALS & a more boyish one,ERAGON.

material gals-a superficial teen comedy that mocks celebs like olsen twins.... real-life sisters ,Tanzie (Hilary Duff) and Ava (Haylie Duff) are sisters basking in the fame of their late father’s cosmetics fortune. When news breaks that the products might actually be harmful to customers, the empire falls quickly, leaving the sisters broke, homeless, and confused on how to act without their wealth. its quite hilarious to see how bimbo they can get...of cos there is a happily ever after ending with cute boyfrds.

Not that the Duff sisters or director marta coolidge should be expecting any nominations come awards time, but as a piece of fluffy entertainment, it goes down painlessly enough.in fact..i was laughing quite abit thru out the show.

Paris and Nicky Hilton definitely exhibit more character but then again.i think material gals is pretty gd for ppl who enjoyed watching SIMPLE LIFE.fuck e critics who hate bimbotic movies..i thinks its a great dvd show:)

enough of girlish shows...i decide to wtach a more manly movie like eragon haha.

Based on Christopher Paolini's best-selling novel of the same title -- the first of his "Inheritance Trilogy" penned while a teenager -- the coming-of-age tale focuses on 17-year-old farm boy Eragon (Edward Speleers debuts) who discovers a mysterious sapphire stone in the forest. His war-torn homeland of Alagaesia suffers under the rule of King Galbatorix (John Malkovich), a one-time Dragon Rider who betrayed his righteous colleagues to take all the power for himself. When a winged creature surprisingly hatches from the blue "stone," Eragon discovers his destiny as the last of the Dragon Riders. He and Saphira offer the only hope of restoring peace and justice to the land.

Hearing the tale of the evil king is pretty hard. It's the same old sh**. Keeping track of all the fake names like Galbatorix and Morzan is ridiculous and all the rules of dragon riding and magic are downright tedious. Just hand out cheat sheets with the movie tickets and cut the film down to 80 minutes. But the baby dragon is adorable. The riding lessons are pretty joyful and the final dragon battle is pretty sweet.

The visual effects are not incompetent. It's the usual fantasy thing, some blurry scenes but most are photorealistic. They didn't bother to make Saphira's lips move. They instead use telepathic dialogue.

But, for a movie about dragon riders it hits all the right notes. Flying, fire, combat. It's certainly more fast paced than The Chronicles of Narnia and more concise than Harry Potter

Often warm and ultimately uplifting, the fantasy delivers entertaining fare to boys @ heart.i personally enjoyed both movies...so do rent em!
